New Hotness 11-15-07

Hello all, Ilya here again with more new shiny to satisfy your SL shopping urges. Today I’ve picked some new items that are appropriate for fall. (I know, it’s summer all year round in SL but just follow me for a minute, ok?)

Let’s kick off today’s post with some gear for the guys. Now I think these argyle sweaters from DragonFly show that a classic piece of design can be fun, casual and fresh when paired with some nice jeans. DragonFly sells the sweaters bundled with a color coordinated t-shirt and black low rise jeans in 6 combinations. (Sweaters are also sold separately) I wish Mel was here so he could model these, the pics really don’t do this look justice. Hot

Here’s a tip men; instead of the same old t-shirt consider a more upscale look by pairing your jeans with a dress shirt, classic sweater, or a nice blazer. Darker washes work better with a more formal top half. You’ll get a look that’s casual and comfortable, yet sophisticated. Trust me, us women are tired of seeing all the shirtless, tattooed action hero wannabes on the grid. If you want to stand out, dress up.

Next a little something for the ladies, a cool retro look from Ciera Bergman of Vitamin Ci. Her Novelty Separates have a definite 70s feel, but are updated with a chic modern sensibility. Available in 9 patterns as individual pieces or in a fat pack that includes them all. Elle Inc. just released these fabulous shirt dresses in colors that are perfect for fall. Not too loose and not too tight these dresses will make you look sexy and stylish. I like the detailing and the nice texturing on these dresses. They can be dressed up with accessories (say with some nice jewelry, heels and an evening bag) or down (with tights and boots) for a look to fit about any occasion. Available for just L$125 each or the fat pack of all colors for L$700. You can find them at Elle’s main store.

Has that autumn chill in the air got you shivering a bit? Do you need a little something to keep you all snuggly and warm? If so Filigreemotion has just the thing; their new color changing Winter Set for both men and women. The set includes a cap, scarf, armwarmers and legwarmers. They look very toasty and are the finishing touch for your cold weather style. I like them because the color changes are done with a simple menu system–no remembering chat commands or spamming the chat channel. Yay! Pick them up at the main Filigreemotion store for L$225.

PixelDolls is one of my favorite stores and I was happy to discover that store owner/designer Nephilaine Protagonist had just released these great looking tops. Wraith tops come in 6 rich colors and illustrate what I mean by looking sexy without looking trashy. The Wraith’s sheer top shows enough skin to be eye catching (check out the plunging neckline and open back), but it’s not over the top. (No pun intended) The colors are rich, the texturing and details fantastic as you would expect from one of SL’s top designers. They even come with prim sleeves to fight SL’s horrible “tight sleeve syndrome”. I liked the Wraith so much I had to buy it–you know, for the sake of the blog

Anyway…you can pick up Wraith at PixelDoll’s main store at Port Seraphine for a very reasonable L$150 for all colors.

New Hotness 11-12-07

Hey there everyone! Mel is taking a little time off so I’ll try to take up the slack by posting a few little morsels of info as to what’s new and hot from some of my favorite designers.

Let’s start with these awesome photo-realistic sculptie sneaks from Chip Midnight. In my opinion these are not only the best looking sneakers, but some of the best looking shoes period. In sizes to fit both guys and dolls (and modifiable for the really oddly shaped feet out there) not only do they look great, but they’re color change too! You’ll find a color to go with almost any outfit or mood. At L$500, they’re a bit pricey–but check them out in person and I think you’ll agree that they’re worth it. Available at Chip’s Freelon store.

Here’s some newness just for you guys: I’m not normally a huge fan of the beat to heck look in jeans, but FNKY! is winning me over with their new Filthy Fives jeans. Filthy Fives come in two styles per box (ripped and worn) and 4 colors. They definitely look well worn, but there’s just enough damage to give them some character–not make them look like something you pulled from a dumpster. Take a look at the main FNKY! store located in the FNKY/Cake sim.

Barerose Tokyo has a whimsical new hairstyle out priced at a very affordable L$75. Inspired by Japanese cartoon and comic characters, Manga Girl has a very “Sailor Moon” look that’s great for fans of the uber popular anime look. You get all six funky colors for your L$75, so it’s a fantastic bargain for hair from a major designer. Pick up Manga Girl at the main Barerose store or the Black Cat sim location.

I’m a major fan of shorter hairstyles and this next bit of hotness from Tami McCoy will probably be my next purchase. Appropriately named Sassy, this cute short ‘do has that slightly edgy and casually tousled look that Tami is known for. I love it because although it’s pretty short it’s still very feminine and just oozes attitude. Want a quick makeover for your av? One of the easiest ways to dramatically change your appearance is to change your hair. If you need a change and like shorter styles as I do, head over to Tami McCoy’s store in Dixie and try on a demo.

Trashy DOES NOT Equal Sexy

Ok ladies, I’m going to pick on you specifically but the same goes for all you
guys out there as well, but since I’m a woman my first blog post is for the
ladies.

There must be some disease that hits most SL females that transforms them from Ruth to Brittney Spears within a few days of their birth. They go from the hideous default avatar to trailer park/escort/BDSM queen. The grid is awash with 7 foot tall amazons wearing wild hair, belly shirts, skin tight jeans or micro-mini skirts with platform heels all topped off with tattoos and enough cheap bling jewelry to make Mr. T look subdued and conservative. Somehow they’ve decided that looking like a walking ad for the red light district makes them attractive. Well if you’re working the streets in Amsterdam sim maybe it does, but for the rest of us there’s a better way. Let me show you some outfits that look sexy, feminine and polished: outfits that will get you noticed without getting you arrested for solicitation.

Evening
Let’s start with a little evening number by Crucial Creations. The Nico Ckorri is Crucial’s edgy (and slightly kinky) take on the little black dress. Check out the lacing up the sides, the very sexy open back and the black thigh high stockings. An awesome pair of black velvet knee high lace up boots with flexi ribbons, also from Crucial, completes the outfit. This is the perfect evening dress for dancing at that hot new club or a quiet night out with that special someone. It’s got very nice detailing and really flatters your shape (if you have long legs you’ll look absolutely amazing) without being skin tight. The Nico Ckorri dress is definitely hot, but there’s nothing sleazy or cheap looking about it. To add that last bit of detail I’ve accessorised with Encore’s Timeless black pearl knotted necklace and earrings. This outfit speaks for itself and needs very little in the way of extras. Just add your favorite necklace and earrings, maybe a fun little evening bag and you’re good to go.

Everyday
Next here’s an everyday outfit that’s casual and fun not trashy. I paired up Nyte’N'Day’s Plush Red tank top with a pair of light Trouble jeans from Pixel Dolls. The red satin of the tank looks rich and shimmery and goes well with any skin tone. It’s not too tight, but just clingy enough to show off your curves. Also, it’s long enough that it comes to the top of even low rise jeans so if you don’t want to show your stomach to the world no worries. The Trouble jeans are a favorite of mine. They have a comfy lived in look without seeming like they were dragged behind a car for 5 miles. Finally, the sandals are D2TK’s color changing Brown Classics. They can be changed via a simple drop down menu to any of 6 different shades to compliment any outfit. Heels are nice but a quality pair of sandals add some variety. (Here’s a tip ladies: if you’re wearing open toe shoes without stockings, please get yourself a nice pedicure like the one I’m wearing from Awesome Designs. They’re not expensive and can be bought as a set with many manicures. SL avatar feet are universally ugly no matter how nice the skin. Do yourself a favor and don’t neglect your feet–nothing kills a great pair of open toe shoes faster than funky feet)

All Business
You ladies who work in an office can get in on the fun too. Looking professional doesn’t mean looking drab and here’s the proof: Last Call’s Ingrid high waisted charcoal pants and white top. The top’s deep neckline shows off your, um…assets…but in a more polished way and the included red agate rock necklace adds interest (it also draws the menfolk’s eyes back up to your face where they belong). I really love the details of this top like the subtle shading and check out the pretty bow just above the waistband. The pants are beautifully textured and nicely detailed. I especially like the cool 4 button front, zippered back and prim flares. Notice how well the high waist works to accentuate the hips and rear. Unlike a lot of ladies pants in SL these look better the curvier you are. Unless your butt is totally out of proportion these pants will definitely get you some positive attention, yet are totally appropriate for a business or professional setting. The finishing touch are the shoes. Also by Crucial, the silver Sling Pumps have pointed toes that look great with the flared legs of the pants. They also help make shorter legs look longer and sleeker.

Ok, I think I’ve beat on you girls enough for now. I hope you see how it’s easily possible to look hot without resorting to cheap-looking over the top clothing. I think these three examples will give you some ideas. Feel free to let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment.

Welcome! And Sale/Discovery at Aitui

Welcome to Ilya and my blog! We’re both students at the MODA Modeling School, pretty much finishing up our classwork and homework and ready to brave the Second Life fashion world. It’s been a blast and we’ve both had a lot of fun along with all the work that goes into it. Yes, it does take a lot of work! A good portion of my non-work hours has been taking classes, learning to walk and chew gum and hit a mark (don’t yell at me Bayley!), and writing up ideas for fashion blogs. Welcome and on with the show!
Just today I received a notice that Aitui is getting ready for his new line of tattoos and a good number of older ones have been marked down drastically! Well, I had to drop what I was doing and high-tail it right over there! I didn’t do a count, but there must be 20 or 30 tattoos marked down, ranging from full upper body tattoos to small single-symbol ones. I picked up this one, Unknown Vigilance, which is a full upper body one. I appreciate good body art and this fits the bill! It’s a very well drawn dragon wrapping around to the back and a serpent run through with a dagger, and also a dragon on each shoulder. It comes in faded or “fresh” (darker) varities, with or without the kanji symbol and on either shirt or undershirt layer. Well…you know while I was there I had to check out the clothes to. Aitui is known for putting together some very nice men’s clothes and I haven’t been by in a while to check up on progress or what I might have looked over before. And wouldn’t you know it, I came across this very nice black polo shirt with a unique design on it. This is just the sort of shirt I enjoy wearing every day when I’m out and about exploring Second Life. It has the feel of silk and the appearance of being worn with wrinkles behind the shoulders, at the shoulder blades and at the waist. I like wearing it untucked in an informal way. And…you can just see the arm tattoos peeking out from the short sleeves. This is a great shirt to wear when throwing on some jeans to go jaunting around or a pair of leather pants and boots for that special party.
